BIRMINGHAM Speedway boss Graham Drury has revealed how he came close to tempting Premier League Riders' Champion James Wright to the club this winter.
Wright, a Brummies' asset following Tony Mole's sale of Workington, has joined Elite League Swindon after considering a move to Perry Barr.
And Brummies' fans will be able to see him in action in the opening meeting of the season on Sunday 16 March, when the club stage the Alan Hunt Memorial Trophy at 6.00 p.m.
Said Drury: 'Who knows what can happen in speedway, we may win promotion to the Elite League and 'Wrighty' may come into the equation. I know he would have no problems riding for us because he likes the place.
'He was only too happy to accept the booking in the Alan Hunt Memorial Trophy. It was the historic re-opening meeting last year at Birmingham and he finished runner-up in that, so we're looking forward to seeing him in action again.'
Meanwhile, other Brummies' assets could soon be fixed up with new clubs. Brent Werner has confirmed his desire to come out of retirement and Rusty Harrison is also looking for a switch. Brummies have given permission to other clubs to talk to both riders.
