General Robins news STATS FANTASTIC with Club Statistician and Historian, Robert Bamford.

Robert focuses closely on Leigh Adams, as the Australian continues his march towards top spot in the Robins' all-time top scorers list.

Skipper Leigh Adams scorched to his 98th club maximum for the Robins in the Knock-Out Cup encounter at Poole on 18 June.

Then, the following evening in the return match, he recorded his 99th unbeaten score (48 full and 51 paid) in all competitions for the side.

Our fabulous ‘Sultan of Slide’ lies only second to Barry Briggs in the Robins’ list of most maximums, the brilliant New Zealander having notched an amazing total of 147 full-house tallies (142 full and 5 paid) between 1964 and 1972.

The home meeting versus Poole was Adams’ 458th appearance in Swindon colours and his points tally for the club at the end of the night stood at 5,362.5, leaving him just 114 points short of Martin Ashby’s all-time total for the side.

Adams reached another landmark last Thursday, becoming only the second rider to reach 3,000 points in all meetings (ie. not just for Swindon) at Blunsdon alone. At the end of the night, his total stood at 3,005 points from 247 Abbey appearances.

Unsurprisingly, Martin Ashby is the sole rider to have registered more points at the Abbey, his Blunsdon total being 3,418.5.

Of the remaining current Swindon teamsters, Mads Korneliussen is the only other rider to have topped 100 club appearances, his tally standing at 130 matches after last Thursday’s KOC encounter. From these, the mega-popular Dane had yielded 719 points.

Next in line is Seb Alden, who took his total of meetings for the side to 91 last week and also topped 400 points for the club; his tally at the close of play last Thursday standing at 402.

Other stats and facts....

When Manuel Hauzinger made his debut against Eastbourne at the Abbey on 12 June, he became the 636th rider (including all guests) to represent Swindon since the formation of the club in 1949.

Last week’s Knock-Out Cup match against Poole was the 1,633rd meeting to be staged at the Abbey in sixty successive seasons of speedway racing.
