CLUB No.8 Cory Gathercole has sustained a broken thumb whilst riding for the Isle Of WIght.
The popular Australian youngster crashed in the opening heat of the Isle of Wight's victory over Scunthorpe on Tuesday evening.
Gathercole was leading race one when his chain snapped exiting the second bend of the Smallbrook arena.
X-rays at Swindon's Great Western hospital have revealed a break just below the thumb of his left hand. A plaster cast has been temporarily fitted and Gathercole will return to hospital tomorrow (Thursday) to see a specialist.
It will then be decided whether he should undergo an operation to pin the broken bone or to allow the injury to heal naturally.
