England hold the ascendancy heading into the second under 23 test match against Australia at Swindon on Thursday night (11th September).
David Croucher's English side rode impressively to collect a five point victory in the opening round of the series at Wolverhampton’s Monmore Green circuit on Monday night.
The 48 - 43 result means team Australia must register a victory at Swindon on Thursday to have any chance of taking overall victory in the three round series.
Australia track a strong looking septet for the Blunsdon leg of the competition by fielding Troy Batchelor, Chris Holder and Cameron Woodward in heat leader roles. Swindon fans will be excited by the inclusion of Abbey Stadium favourites Cory Gathercole and Richard Sweetman.
England track Lewis Bridger at number one, James Wright at three and Tai Woffinden at five whilst Jason King and Ben Barker assume second string roles. At reserve England are represented by Premier league youngster Robert Mear and Joe Haines.
Teenage sensation Tai Woffinden captains the English side and is once again expected to excel at Blunsdon. The Rye House rider rode the Abbey Stadium brilliantly back in May when he finished third in the British final.
Swindon team manager Alun Rossiter is predicting a close meeting:
‘I’m really excited about Thursday night, not only do we get to see some of World speedway’s hottest young prospects on show, but we can also enjoy some good old English/Australian rivalry!
I suppose I have split loyalties with Troy Batchelor, Cory Gathercole and Richard Sweetman all riding for Australia whilst James Wright rides for England.
Whatever the outcome, Thursday provides a superb opportunity for the youngsters on show to gain some valuable experience.’
