Travis news TRAVIS McGOWAN was paid for 10 points in the narrow win over Poole and managed to pick up the Man of the Match Award from sponsors SwindonWeb.

Travis said: “Yeah it’s terrific, it’s most pleasing to pick up the award. I thought the night went well for me; we kept battling hard there and picked up a few good results.

"Leigh [Adams] is a top rider and he was pushing me into the corners, perhaps a bit quicker than I was going all night, but it was working well, I don’t mind that at all.

"He did a great job for the team, as he always does, and it was good to hold it together with him in the crunch rides towards the end of the meeting to get the win.

“I’m feeling good, you know there are no excuses whatsoever, the shoulder has been 100 per cent since I had the second operation. It’s just down to me now to knuckle down and get some match fitness.

"The trick is to get the mind up to speed and that’s what we’re working on at the moment. We made some decisions in the winter about what equipment we thought would work coming into this season, but for whatever reason it’s not quite worked out, so it’s back to the drawing board a bit.

"We’ve got a game plan and it’s just a matter of enforcing it, and hopefully everything will start to be in place for the meeting with Belle Vue.”

It was clear speaking to Travis in the pits after the home win against Poole that he is delighted to be part of the Swindon set-up in 2008.

He said: “It’s awesome; you know the club and everyone involved. The fans have made me feel most welcome, so it’s off to a great start and it’s down to me now to knuckle down and get some consistency, go onwards and upwards and get the results I know I can get, and put a bit back for everyone.

"I’ve always looked forward to my trips here as an away rider, it’s a track that can be really rewarding if you give it a good go, and that suits me.

"It’s just a matter of learning the little tricks, what to do and what not to do. A couple of times I caught myself out trying a little bit too hard in areas where I now know I can’t go; the more laps I do the better it should get.”
