Swindon fell to a seven point defeat at the hands of a resolute Eastbourne side whose top five contributed superb performances.
Leigh Adams and James Wright registered double point scores for the Robins but lacked support from the remainder of the side.
Adams was characteristically terrific with a hefty seventeen point return whilst James Wright’s excellent form continued with an eye catching paid thirteen point score. The British youngster collected two thoroughly deserved heat victories and battled tenaciously throughout the meeting.
Meanwhile, Mads Korneliussen collected five points whilst Troy Batchelor was unable to stamp his authority on the meeting and could only conjure six points. Travis McGowan, Seb Alden and Theo Pijper were only able to collectively contribute paid six points which proved pivotal in the final outcome.
The Eagles demonstrated commendable strength in depth and were able to overcome weaknesses in their reserve department through the solid work of their 1-5. Lee Richardson top scored for the Suffolk side with a twelve point score whilst Cameron Woodward notched up a paid twelve point contribution.
Elsewhere, the introduction of guest rider Joonas Kylmakorpi proved to be particularly shrewd as the Finnish rider romped to a paid nine point score.
Swindon took the lead in heat two but were unable to maintain the ascendancy as Eastbourne slowly began to construct a lead. The home side stretched their advantage to eight points in heat seven and moved further ahead through a 5-1 from Nicholls and Kylmakorpi in race ten.
With Swindon trailing by ten points Leigh Adams was selected for a tactical ride in race eleven and the Australian didn’t disappoint as he teamed up with James Wright to earn Swindon a 7-2.
Despite not conceding a heat advantage in the concluding four races the Robins were unable to narrow Eastbourne’s seven point lead as the home side held on for victory.
