Swindon Captain Leigh Adams celebrated his 100th Speedway Grand Prix appearance in perfect fashion with a thoroughly deserved victory at an enthralling round seven in Malilla, Sweden.
On a memorable night of International speedway the Australian collected his second GP victory of the 2008 season and in doing so revitalized his World Championship campaign.
Adams dropped just three points in his five qualifying rides which secured him first pick of gate positions in the first semi final. A characteristically smooth semi final victory was followed by a clever ride in the final that saw Adams recover from a competitive first corner and emphatically take the lead on the second lap.
The Robins’ skipper exploited a small mistake from Hans Andersen and nipped underneath the Dane and rode to an untroubled victory.
Adams was naturally delighted with the result:
”We're a long way adrift from Nicki Pedersen, but this is a stepping stone. We said we had to forget about the points and just try to enjoy it, and that's what I did
I am still enjoying my speedway, still riding pretty well and I've got great people around me. With those hundred Grands Prix, it takes a dedicated team, and I have to say a big thank-you to my mechanics and my family because it's been a long old haul for many years.
I’ve got to finish on top of the box a few more times. A few more of these and we'll be up there!"
