| | BOXALL SIGNED AS NO.8! Wednesday 03 February 2010 BRITISH youngster Steve Boxall has been instated as the Robins’ No.8 rider for the 2010 campaign. The twenty two year old will combine his Elite league appearances with a full time berth with Premier league Somerset.
Boxall, who rates Blunsdon as one his favourite race tracks, started his career with Rye House’s junior side during the 2002 season. Victory in the ‘05 Conference league riders Championship clearly demonstrated the solid progress Boxall was making within British speedway. After ‘doubling up’ between the Conference and Premier Leagues with Rye House, the 2006 campaign saw him move full-time into the Rockets team and he was a member of the side that scooped the League Championship for a second time in 2007. The Canterbury-born racer has previous Elite league experience after stints with Belle Vue and most recently a berth with Poole in 2009 where, despite some mechanical gremlins, Boxall impressed the Pirates’ faithful with his never-say-die attitude. Swindon co-owner Gary Patchett said: “Steve is a talented young rider and his performance in January’s New Year Classic at Newport clearly demonstrated his ability. After a couple of frustrating seasons he is approaching the 2010 campaign with a newfound confidence and clear of injury. Steve likes the Swindon circuit and has good experience on lots of other Elite league tracks. We're confident he’ll do a good job for the club when required during 2010”. | | | | |
